Body-Solid GPR400 Power Rack
The Body-Solid GPR400 is a commercial power rack rated to 1,000 lb. Its uprights are 3 in. by 3 in. tubing in 11 gauge steel, which is heavier than what most cages near this price use. It ships with two pipe and pin safeties, a pair of J cup liftoffs, and a knurled 32 mm pull up bar built into the top, so you can squat, bench, rack pull and do chin ups the day you finish assembly.
Intended use: Commercial
What makes the GPR400 different from a budget power rack?
The steel. Most cages under $1,000 are built from 2 in. by 2 in. tubing in 12 or 14 gauge. The GPR400 uses 3 in. by 3 in. uprights in 11 gauge, with 2 in. by 3 in. tubing across the upper and lower frame. That is the tubing class you normally find on racks costing twice as much, and it is why Body-Solid rates this cage to 1,000 lb. and covers the frame and welds for life.
How much room does the GPR400 need?
The rack measures 52.6 in. long, 52 in. wide and 79.1 in. tall. Inside the cage you get 44 in. of width and 34 in. of depth, which is a real walk in footprint rather than a squeeze. Plan on about 8 ft. by 8 ft. of clear floor so you can load plates on both sides and step out between sets. A ceiling of 7 ft. 6 in. or higher lets a tall lifter use the pull up bar without ducking.
How are the uprights drilled?
The GPR400 uses 5/8 in. holes on 2 in. centers through the upper section, where the J cups sit, and 1 in. centers through the lower section, where the safeties sit. The tight spacing down low is the part that matters. It lets you set the catch within an inch of your true bottom position on a bench or a squat instead of settling for the nearest hole two inches off.
What is included with the rack?
- GPR400 frame in 11 gauge steel with a black powder coat finish
- Two pipe and pin safeties
- Two J cup liftoffs
- Integrated 32 mm pull up bar, knurled left and right of center
- Hardware and the assembly manual
A barbell, plates and a bench are not included. Every attachment in the table below is sold separately.
Which attachments fit the GPR400?
Twelve Body-Solid attachments pin or bolt onto this rack. Ten of them can be added straight from the options in the buy box above, so they ship on the same order. The other two are stocked separately and linked in the table.
| Model |
What it adds |
| GLA400 |
Lat pulldown and low row station with a lat bar, a row bar and nylon coated aircraft cable. Plate loaded as it ships, and it accepts the optional SP150 150 lb. selectorized stack. |
| GPRSF |
Premium safeties in 2 in. by 3 in. high tensile steel, rated 1,000 lb. each, adjusted tool free in 1 in. steps. |
| GPRSS |
Safety straps in 3 in. reinforced nylon tested to 10,000 lb. They catch a dropped bar more gently than steel and spare the knurl. |
| SPRCUA |
Multi grip chin up cross member that mounts across the top of the cage for neutral and angled pull up grips. |
| GPRDH |
Dip handles that pin inside the uprights, so you get dips without giving up any floor space. |
| SPRHT |
Padded hip thruster platform on an 11 gauge U frame. It pins into the rack and ships fully assembled. |
| SPRLHD |
Leg hold down pad that keeps you seated through lat pulldowns, and doubles as a roller for split squats and preacher curls. |
| GPRTBR |
Landmine and T bar row sleeve that mounts at the base for rows, presses, lunges and rotational work. |
| GPRWH |
Weight horn for plate and bumper storage on the uprights. Sold as a single horn, so order the quantity you want. |

Band pegs, sold as a pair, for banded squats and presses. They also hold chains. |
| GPRUL |
U link that pins into the uprights as an anchor for training ropes and bands, and stores them between sessions. View the GPRUL. |
| SPRJC |
A second pair of J cups, so you can leave a bar set at two heights or swap out worn liners. View the SPRJC. |

Our walkthrough covers how the safeties and J cups adjust, what the pull up bar clears, and how the pulley station works once the GLA400 lat attachment is fitted. Note that the rack in this video has the GLA400 and the SP150 weight stack installed. Both are sold separately, so the rack on its own will not have the pulley tower you see here.
Who is the GPR400 best for?
Buyers who want one rack to be the last rack. The 1,000 lb. rating and the 11 gauge frame mean a strong lifter will not outgrow it, and the attachment list means the rack can pick up new jobs later instead of being replaced. It suits light commercial rooms, training studios, school and team weight rooms, and serious home gyms with the ceiling height for it.
Who should look at something else?
- Rooms under 7 ft. of ceiling height. The frame alone stands 79.1 in.
- Anyone who needs a rack that folds or rolls away. The GPR400 is a fixed 273 lb. cage.
- Buyers who want a squat stand footprint. A half rack like the SPR500 takes far less floor.
- Anyone who needs it usable the hour it lands. Plan two to four hours of assembly with a second person.
Purchase benefits
- Free curbside shipping within the continental United States.
- Body-Solid warranty. In home use is covered for life on every component. Light commercial use is covered for life on the frame and welds, 3 years on hardware and bushings, and 1 year on grips and normal wear items.
- Our team can size the attachment package with you before the order ships, so nothing arrives that does not fit.
Frequently asked questions
Does the GPR400 need to be bolted to the floor?
No. At 273 lb. with a 52 in. by 52.6 in. base, the rack is stable for squats, presses and rack pulls without anchoring. Body-Solid does provide holes in the base plates if your facility requires equipment to be fixed down.
Can you do pull ups on it right away?
Yes. The 1 1/4 in. (32 mm) pull up bar is welded into the top of the frame and is knurled left and right of center. Nothing extra is needed.
What is the difference between the GPR400 and the SPR1000?
The SPR1000 is Body-Solid Pro ClubLine, built for a full commercial floor with a heavier frame and its own attachment family. The GPR400 is the light commercial cage. Both are 11 gauge, but the SPR1000 costs roughly twice as much and takes SPR series attachments, not GPR series ones.
How long does assembly take?
Two to four hours with two people. The frame arrives in bolt together sections, so the work is lifting uprights into place and torquing bolts. One person can do it, but standing a 79 in. upright alone is the part that goes wrong.
Will a standard bench fit inside the cage?
Yes. The interior is 44 in. wide and 34 in. deep, which clears a flat or adjustable bench with room to walk around it.
Can the lat attachment be added later?
Yes. The GLA400 bolts onto the back of the rack at any point and does not require you to take the cage apart. Ordering it with the rack saves a second freight charge.
Are the safeties and J cups included, or extra?
Included. Two pipe and pin safeties and two J cup liftoffs come with the rack. The GPRSF flip safeties, the GPRSS straps and the SPRJC J cups are upgrades or spares, not replacements for missing parts.
How does it ship?
By freight truck, curbside. Someone needs to be there to sign for it and help move the cartons off the liftgate. Ask us ahead of time if you need inside delivery.
Bottom line: The Body-Solid GPR400 gives you an 11 gauge, 1,000 lb. rated cage with safeties, J cups and a pull up bar included, and twelve attachments waiting when you want more out of it.
