Chris Pruitt

Founder, WorkoutHealthy LLC. Certified ASFA Personal Trainer. 16+ years in the fitness equipment industry.

Chris Pruitt started WorkoutHealthy in 2016 to do one thing well: get serious, commercial grade gym equipment into the hands of people who need it, without the runaround. Since then he has overseen more than 700 equipment placements into gyms, hotels, fire stations, universities, clinics, and homes, including facilities run by Marriott, the YMCA, Orangetheory Fitness, the Ventura County Fire Department, and George Washington University.

He is a certified ASFA personal trainer with more than 16 years in gym equipment sales and roughly two decades in fitness overall, including training other people. That combination is unusual. Most people who write about gym equipment have either used it or sold it. Chris has done both, and he has also been the one taking the call when a machine three years into its life needs a part.

What Chris writes about

  • Commercial and home gym equipment buying: strength machines, functional trainers, racks, benches, and free weights
  • Cardio and rehab equipment, including low impact and clinical use cases
  • Outfitting a facility: space planning, freight, budgets, and what actually holds up under heavy use
  • Honest comparisons between machines, including gear WorkoutHealthy does not sell
  • Training content built around the equipment people actually own

Experience that shows up in the articles

The useful parts of Chris's background are the unglamorous ones. Knowing that a machine's listed footprint and its usable footprint are two different numbers. Knowing which freight class turns a $200 delivery into a $700 one. Knowing which manufacturers still ship parts for a discontinued model, and which ones stop answering. Those details come from running a dealership, not from a two week review window.

How he works

Chris writes and reviews the buying content on this site personally. He does not accept free or loaned products from brands, and no manufacturer has ever paid for a placement or a ranking here. When a recommendation is based on hands on use, the article says so. When it is based on specs, warranty documents, and research, the article says that instead. The full methodology is on How We Test Gym Equipment, and the standards he holds the site to are on Editorial Standards.
