Editorial Standards

WorkoutHealthy publishes buying guides, workout content, and health articles, and we also sell commercial gym equipment. Those two jobs can pull against each other, so this page sets out the rules we hold ourselves to. It applies to every article on this site.

Who writes here

Every article has a named person attached to it, and that person is accountable for what it says. Our content is written and reviewed by people who work in the gym equipment business day to day, led by our founder Chris Pruitt, a certified ASFA personal trainer with more than 16 years in the industry.

Nothing publishes here without a person reading it first and signing off on it. We use software tools in our research and drafting, the same way any modern publisher does, but a human being checks the facts, makes the recommendation, and takes responsibility for it.

Where our facts come from

We work from primary sources whenever one exists:

  • Manufacturer spec sheets, owner manuals, and assembly instructions
  • Written warranty documents, not warranty marketing copy
  • Freight and shipping documentation from the shipments we handle
  • Published research from peer reviewed journals for any training or health claim
  • Government and standards bodies for safety, certification, and regulatory questions

When a claim comes from research, we say what the research actually found, including how strong the evidence is. One small study is not the same as a body of evidence, and we do not write it as though it were. We put the source next to the claim it supports rather than dumping a list of links at the bottom of the page.

How we handle product claims

We do not repeat a manufacturer claim as fact just because it is printed on the box. Weight capacities, warranty terms, footprints, and shipping weights get checked against documentation or against what we see in our own warehouse and service calls. Where our measurement disagrees with the listed spec, we publish both and say which one we trust.

We state warranty terms exactly as written. We do not describe a warranty as "lifetime" unless the warranty document uses that word for that component, and we say which components it covers.

Our full testing methodology, including what "hands on tested" means and when a pick is research based instead, is on How We Test Gym Equipment.

Health and injury content

Our health, recovery, and rehab articles are written for general education. They are not medical advice, they do not diagnose anything, and they are not a substitute for talking to a doctor or a physical therapist who can actually examine you.

For anything involving injury, rehabilitation, pregnancy, disease, weight loss, or supplement effects, we stick to credible scientific sources, we describe uncertainty honestly, and we point readers to a qualified professional. We do not promise outcomes. If a claim needs a clinician to evaluate it, we say that instead of guessing.

Independence from money

These rules are not negotiable:

  • No manufacturer, brand, or retailer can buy a ranking, a score, or a mention.
  • Affiliate commission rates never influence which product wins a roundup.
  • We do not accept free or loaned products from brands for review.
  • Advertisers have no input into editorial content, and display ads are kept out of our review articles.
  • Any sponsored or paid placement, if we ever run one, will be clearly labeled as advertising and kept visually and editorially separate from our rankings.
  • Affiliate links carry rel="sponsored nofollow" so search engines and readers can both tell what they are.

Most, but not all, of our affiliate links go to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. The full explanation is on our Affiliate Disclosure page.

Store content and review content are separate

We sell equipment, and we review equipment we do not sell. To keep those honest, we run them on separate rails. Our own product and collection pages carry no affiliate links. Our review articles say plainly when a product we recommend is one we also sell, and they name and compare competing products fairly even when we sell the alternative.

Dates and updates

Every article shows when it was published and when it was last meaningfully updated. We do not change a date to make an old article look fresh. When we revise a recommendation, we revise the article, not just the timestamp.

Corrections

If we publish something wrong, we fix it and we say we fixed it. Email contact@workouthealthy.com with the page URL and what is inaccurate. We aim to respond within 5 business days. Corrections that change a recommendation get a visible note on the article.

Contact

Questions about anything on this page, or about how a specific article was put together, can go to contact@workouthealthy.com or through our contact page.
