Shopping Guide for Functional Trainers

How to choose a functional trainer

1. Measure width, height and the space required for cable travel.
2. Check whether the machine uses one or two weight stacks and whether two users can train independently.
3. Review pulley ratio because it changes the resistance felt at the handle.
4. Compare included handles, bars and storage so you know what is ready on day one.
5. Confirm assembly, delivery access and intended-use rating before ordering.

Functional Trainers FAQs

Use the assembled dimensions on the product page and allow additional room at the front and sides for cable movement, attachments and safe entry. Confirm ceiling and doorway clearances as well.

The pulley ratio determines how much resistance reaches the handle and how far the cable travels. A higher mechanical advantage feels lighter than the selected stack weight but offers smoother, longer movement.

Dual-stack trainers may allow two independent users when each pulley column has its own stack. Single-stack and combination units can have different limitations, so check the product specifications.

Most functional trainers require substantial assembly after freight delivery. Review the product page for assembly requirements, unit weight and access planning before purchase.
