Body-Solid Endurance B4RB Light Commercial Recumbent Bike

The B4RB is a seated recumbent bike from Endurance, the light commercial line at Body-Solid. It holds riders up to 300 lb., gives you 24 resistance levels, and fits in a space about 64 in. long by 26 in. wide. The number that should frame everything else is the warranty tier: Body-Solid backs the frame for 15 years in a shared gym, and for life in a home. Most bikes near this price are built for one household and covered for five years or less.

What does light commercial rated mean on a bike this size?

It means Body-Solid will stand behind the frame for 15 years even when the bike lives in a room full of strangers and gets ridden all day. That is a build claim, not a marketing one. It also sets the ceiling: light commercial is not the same as full commercial, which is the tier Body-Solid sells for 24 hour clubs and high traffic facilities.

The B4RB is sized for apartment fitness rooms, hotel gyms, corporate wellness rooms, clinics, schools, senior centers and home gyms where more than one person rides. If you are outfitting a busy commercial club, look higher up the range. The full warranty terms are listed in the Specs and Logistics tab below.

Is the B4RB a good fit for rehab and low impact training?

For many people, yes. The reclined seat supports the lower back, the pedals sit out in front instead of underneath you, and the frame is open in the middle so you step through it rather than swinging a leg over a saddle. Pedaling is smooth and there is no impact on the knees, hips or ankles. The 24 resistance levels matter more here than they look: small steps let someone rebuild capacity a notch at a time instead of jumping between two settings that are both wrong.

Where it stops is seat access. The B4RB seat does not swivel and it does not come off. A rider still has to step through the frame and sit down on their own. If that part is the hard part, a purpose built rehab machine is the better tool, and we carry those too.

See the B4RB before you commit the floor space

Photos are good at showing the frame. They are worse at showing how a person actually gets on and off, and on a bike bought for low impact training that is the part that decides it. Watch how low the step through sits, how far the seat reclines and how much room a rider needs beside the bike to swing a leg through.

Which low impact machine should you pick?

Machine What it trains Getting into the seat Pick it when
Endurance B4RB Legs only Step through the open frame, fixed seat The rider can sit down unaided and you want a gym rated bike
Recumbent stepper Legs, with a stepping path instead of a circle Swivel seat models turn to face the rider Getting on and off is the hardest part of the session
Arm and leg cycle Upper body and legs, together or separately Varies by model Upper body conditioning is part of the plan

You can compare all three side by side in our Rehab and Low Impact Cardio collection.

What can you actually measure on the console?

Speed, RPM, distance, time, watts, calories and heart rate. The display alternates between RPM and speed in one window and between watts and calories in another, so you read six numbers off a screen showing four.

Watts is the one worth knowing about. It is a direct measure of work, and unlike calories it does not depend on the rider entering an age or a body weight. If you are programming for someone, watts gives you a number you can repeat week to week and actually trust. The B4RB also has a Watt mode that holds output steady while you pedal, and a Fitness mode that runs an eight minute test and scores the result.

Do you need the heart rate chest strap?

Only if you want the heart rate control programs. The handlebar has contact sensors that work fine for a spot check while you ride. But in every heart rate control program, the console ignores the grip sensors and listens only for a chest strap, because a strap reads far more accurately. The strap is sold separately and is not in the box. If heart rate control is not part of how you train, the grips are enough.

What does it need from the room?

A standard 120v outlet within reach, and a climate controlled space. Body-Solid is firm about the second one: this bike is not rated for a garage that freezes, a damp basement or anywhere outdoors, and storing it in those conditions can shorten the life of the electronics. Body-Solid also recommends putting a mat underneath, both to protect the floor and to give the levelers something firm to sit on.

Once it is together, one person can move it. Tip it back onto the two transport wheels at the front and roll it. Exact floor space and clearance figures are in the Specs and Logistics tab.

Frequently asked questions

Is the B4RB the same machine as the B4R?
Yes. Body-Solid sells it under the model code B4RB, and the owner's manual and the serial plate on the frame read B4R. Same bike, two labels. Order parts using the B4R manual.

How many workout programs does it have?
Twelve preset exercise profiles, covering strength, cardio, hill, fat burn, interval and speed training, plus Manual, Fitness, Watt, Personal, heart rate control and Random. It also stores five user profiles, so several riders can keep their own age and weight settings.

How hard is assembly?
Five steps, and it goes faster with two people. The part that catches people out is cable routing: the heart rate wires and the wire harness have to be connected inside the upright before it bolts to the main frame. Skip ahead and you will be taking it apart again. Body-Solid recommends a qualified dealer do the assembly.

Can a wheelchair user transfer onto it?
Not easily. The seat is fixed, so it does not swivel toward the rider and it does not lift off. A rider has to step through the frame and sit down. For wheelchair access, look at a swivel seat stepper or an arm and leg cycle instead.

Does it need to be plugged in?
Yes. The B4RB is a 120v plug in machine. The console and the resistance system both run on mains power, so there is no self powered option.

What is the weight limit?
300 lb. That is Body-Solid's published figure for this model.

Why does it squeak?
Body-Solid names three causes, in order of how often they turn up: hardware that was not fully tightened during assembly, dirt built up on the rail and wheels, and a bike that is not level. Check all three before calling for service. There are five levelers under the frame.

The bottom line

The B4RB is what you buy when a bike has to survive more than one rider. It gives up the swivel seat and the arm cranks that a dedicated therapy machine has, and in exchange you get a 15 year commercial frame warranty, a 300 lb. limit and a console that reports watts. For an apartment gym, a clinic waiting area, a corporate wellness room or a home gym that gets shared, that is usually the right trade.

Common questions

Does it arrive assembled?

Most equipment arrives partly assembled and needs some setup. How much varies by product, and the Specs & Logistics section on this page lists the requirement for this model.

Will the truck bring it inside?

No. Freight delivery is curbside only. Liftgate service is included, so the item comes off the truck safely, but someone needs to be there to receive it, sign for it, and move it from the curb. Measure your doorways and the path to the room before you order.

Can I pay with a purchase order?

Yes. We work with clinics, schools and municipalities on purchase orders. Here is how it works.

What if it arrives damaged?

Note the damage on the delivery receipt before you sign, then contact us. Orders ship insured and carry the manufacturer's warranty, so a damaged or defective item gets repaired or replaced.

How do I know it fits my space?

Check the Specs & Logistics section for assembled dimensions and the clearance to allow around the unit. Measure the room, the doorways, and the route from the curb before you order.
